Let's talk about progression!
Progression means gradual development or movement forward, toward a more advanced, improved, or complex state.
In pole training, it’s easy to measure progress by the tricks you achieve.
But real progress often happens in ways that are harder to see, improved technique, better body awareness, reduced injury risk, and a deeper understanding of movement.
Progress is nonlinear, and improvement varies over time. It happens in jumps, plateaus, setbacks, and breakthroughs. Progression can speed up, slow down, or even shift in different directions - both physically and mentally.
Here’s an example👇
➥ You finally dare to try a flip on the pole - and you land on your feet. You feel unstoppable. You believe the next practice will take you even further.
➥ But instead, you start to feel scared of losing control. You don’t even dare to release the pole anymore.
➥ This is a setback happening in the brain - in your confidence and your sense of safety. And this is completely normal.
➥ It might feel like progression is going backwards.
➥ But in reality, it’s challenging you to build true control, trust, and mental stability - not just bravery in the moment.
Progression is not about what level you are on.
You can be brand new at something and progress more efficiently than someone at an advanced level. It all depends on your starting point and whether your expectations match the time you’re giving yourself.
Progression is also affected by your mindset, your training schedule, overall physical and mental health, and daily life.
Some students may excel at certain skills but take longer to master others. That’s why it’s essential not to compare yourself to others. Every journey is unique.
Your path should reflect your abilities and your progress - not someone else’s.
